All Four Clans Explained — ThunderClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan, WindClan
Every Clan in Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest: territories, culture, campaign differences, and which Clan fits your playstyle.
How many Clans can I play?
Four — the four Clans of the Lake Territories from the book series. Your choice at character creation locks in your Prophecy Mode campaign: four full stories, each shaped by its Clan’s culture, conflicts, and traditions. If you want to see everything, plan for at least four playthroughs.

What is ThunderClan like?
ThunderClan lives in dense forest and fights with bold, direct techniques. Its campaign leans into the Clan’s book identity as the moral center of the forest — taking in outsiders and defending its borders. Expect straightforward, aggressive combat options and storylines about leadership and loyalty.
What is RiverClan like?
RiverClan claims the marshlands and swims where other Clans won’t. Its techniques flow and adapt, and its campaign explores pride, independence, and the politics of the Lake. RiverClan suits players who like reactive, flexible fighting over raw aggression.
What is ShadowClan like?
ShadowClan thrives in dark pine swamps, hunting in low light and striking unseen. Its campaign leans into the Clan’s complicated history — ambition, redemption, and the struggle to be more than its reputation. Choose ShadowClan if you prefer stealth and deception in the combat system.
What is WindClan like?
WindClan runs the open moors and values speed above everything. Moor-runners chase down prey and enemies alike; in battle, WindClan techniques reward acting first and hitting before the enemy can answer.
Do the Clans play differently in combat?
Yes. Combat is 3v3 turn-based with timing mechanics, and each Clan fields its own specialized move set and techniques that reflect its identity — ThunderClan’s direct pressure, RiverClan’s adaptability, ShadowClan’s stealth, WindClan’s speed. Your base stats also depend on your Clan. The shared layer across all Clans is the unlockable move list and StarClan ancestor attacks.
Which Clan should a beginner pick?
ThunderClan or WindClan — the former’s direct style and the latter’s speed are the most forgiving ways to learn timing-based combat. If you enjoy planning and misdirection, ShadowClan has the highest skill ceiling. Read the beginner’s guide for what to do in your first hours regardless of Clan.
